As businesses look to open as lockdown eases, now is the time that leaders need to think carefully about their actions. Trying to recreate the model that was successful before the crisis may well not be the best option.
Ask yourself:
How have your customers have changed? how they will now be looking to interact, and what their needs are now?
How do you need to set up to keep your teams and customers safe?
What has the impact on your suppliers and competitors been?
Be an advocate for disruption – by doing things differently you will get a different result. Adapt your model to suit the new needs of your customers, teams and suppliers. Get this right and by daring to be different you will engage your teams, build support from your suppliers and strengthen your proposition for your customers. The same thing over and over is boring; whereas new and different is exciting and builds intrigue.
Take the time to get this right before you rush into trying to rebuilding the same business you had before as it may well not work. There are plenty of examples of businesses that have failed driven by their unwillingness to change and adapt. I’m not suggesting change for change’s sake, but a high level standing back from the business to consider the new environment in which we operate. You need to get this right, but with vision, know-how and creative thinking, breakthrough results can be achieved. Now is the time to create an exciting and successful new business model triggered by this crisis.
