You need those people who understand your business, feel passionate about it and have shown that they are prepared to go the extra yard. Skill is one thing that can be trained in, but attitude is far more difficult. Make sure you retain a core of good people who will support the business going forward and ensure that ‘casualties’ come from outside this group. Selection processes without objective data that underpins choices, it has to be, to a large degree, gut feel about individuals. Make sure that you follow employment procedures and if necessary, get some outside, professional advice. This will pay you back longer term.
